Beyond the Limits of Toil: the final event of the ALERT Project at the Technopole of Ferrara
Aluminum alloys today represent one of the most strategic frontiers for the future of aerospace and advanced manufacturing. Reducing component weight without compromising reliability and durability means improving performance, sustainability, and energy efficiency in next-generation systems.
On Monday, June 8, 2026, the Technopole of Ferrara will host the final event of the Emilia-Romagna PR-FESR 2021-2027 Project entitled "Aluminum Alloys for Components Subject to Fatigue and Fretting: Integrated Coatings and Surface Treatments - ALERT". Our IN4 Hub Laboratory is a project partner, with Professor Mattia Merlin as unit coordinator, and DTM S.r.l. as project leader.
The final event, "Beyond the Limits of Fatigue: High-Performance Aluminum Alloys for Aerospace", will take place starting at 4:30 PM in Room 3 of the "Cathedral" of the Ferrara Science and Technology Pole, located at Via Saragat 1. It will provide an important opportunity for academic research, industrial laboratories, and industry companies to collaborate.
The ALERT project explored new solutions to increase the performance of aluminum alloys relevant to the aeronautical and aerospace sectors, integrating innovative surface treatments, functional coatings, and additive manufacturing technologies. The goal was to counter critical phenomena such as fatigue and fretting, opening new perspectives for lighter and stronger components.
Special attention will also be paid to technology transfer to the industrial sector, through the presentation of application case studies in the aerospace sector.
The event confirms the role of the Technopole of Ferrara as a facilitator of collaborative research and technological innovation, fostering dialogue between universities, laboratories, and businesses on key issues for the competitiveness of the region and highly specialized industrial sectors.
