The Ferrara Technopole and digital security for businesses
17 April 2025
Digital transformation is redefining the business landscape, but with it come growing cybersecurity risks. Now more than ever, it is essential for companies and professionals to adopt advanced technologies and new organisational models and to develop specific skills to protect their data and corporate assets. Cybersecurity is therefore becoming an indispensable pillar of digital innovation.
To meet these needs, the Ferrara Technology Park, together with the IN4 laboratory (in collaboration with the Digital Twin & Cyber Security Laboratory of the University of Ferrara), is organising an informative meeting dedicated to digital security and designed for SMEs and professionals interested in improving their digital security.
Why participate?
The meeting will focus on awareness, i.e. the importance of being aware of the risks associated with digitalisation. The aim is to raise awareness among businesses of the importance of a preventive approach to security.
Practical solutions for protecting company data will be discussed. In addition, advanced tools such as Security Operations Centres (SOCs), penetration testing and application code analysis will be presented. There will be a particular focus on open-source solutions, which allow SMEs and professionals to adopt high-level security technologies without licensing costs.
After a presentation by Prof. Carlo Giannelli, affiliated with the IN4 laboratory at the Ferrara Technopole, the meeting will include an interactive session in which companies and professionals can share their needs and concerns.
What are the advantages for businesses of learning more about cybersecurity?
Protection of sensitive data: companies handle large amounts of sensitive data, such as personal, financial and confidential customer information. Cybersecurity helps protect this data from theft or accidental loss.
Prevention of cyber attacks: attacks such as phishing, ransomware and system breaches are becoming increasingly common and sophisticated. Learning more about cybersecurity allows you to recognise these attacks earlier and defend yourself better.
Regulatory compliance: Many companies are subject to data protection regulations and laws, such as GDPR and NIS2 in Europe. Compliance with these regulations helps improve cybersecurity posture. Non-compliance can result not only in significant risks and heavy fines, but also criminal consequences.
Strengthening corporate reputation: Cybersecurity is an important aspect of customer trust in a company. Demonstrating robust security measures can improve corporate reputation and attract new customers.
Business continuity: A cyberattack can disrupt business operations, causing financial damage. Cybersecurity training helps prevent disruptions and ensure business continuity.
Employee awareness: Many cyberattacks start with human error, such as clicking on dangerous links or using weak passwords. Training can educate employees about safe behaviours and best practices for protecting the company's infrastructure.
Economic risk mitigation: Cyber attacks can be costly. In addition to direct repair costs, there may be legal damages, customer losses, and recovery costs. Investing in security reduces the risk of these costs.
Adapting to new threats: cybersecurity is a constantly evolving field. An in-depth look at the topic allows companies to stay up to date on new threats and the latest defence technologies.
Where and when:
The cybersecurity meeting will be held on Friday, 16 May 2025, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Ferrara Technology Park, in the meeting room at Via Saragat 13. Participation will be limited to a small number of companies to ensure more effective interaction.

The University of Ferrara is also conducting research as part of the Zero Trust Architecture for the Industry landscape - Z4I project, funded through the SERICS (SEcurity and RIghts In the CyberSpace) cascade call for proposals with the support of the European Union - NextGenerationEU. One of the key aspects concerns the analysis of cyber threats in modern industrial environments, with particular attention to legal and regulatory aspects. To this end, an anonymous questionnaire has been prepared to collect data and opinions on the subject.
The questionnaire takes just a few minutes to complete.
